Chinese Daily Coal Consumption Soars

Chinese Coal Demand

After the long holiday during October 1 to 7, manufacturers in China resumed working gradually and daily coal consumption of key power plants jumped up.

During October 9 to 15, coal inventory in Chinese large-scaled power plants increased, compared to the stockpiles one week earlier. For example, Zhejiang Power Group, Shanghai Power and China Guodian Corp witnessed a 10 percent increase in coal stockpiles; Datang Corp. inventory was around 640,000 tonnes, a leap of 19.46%.

Daily consumption also moved forward. For instance, the daily consumption of Shanghai Power and China Guodian Corp. soared 25.42% and 19.76% respectively, of which, Shanghai Power’s consumption was 31,700 tonnes a day.

Up to October 15, the coal stockpiles of Guangdong Yudean Group, Datang Corp. and Huaneng Group could be used for 14 days, 9 days and 15 days respectively.

    Demand for coal in China continues to increase, and it is estimated that it will be around 3.06 billion tons in 2010.

    Bloomberg quoted China National Coal Association as saying that China may consume between 4% and 6% more coal by 2010.
