Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) Batteries for FREE!

Recondition rechargeable batteries. How to recharge batteries that have lost some or all of their ability to charge… This will work on led acid, nickel cadmium (Ni Cad) and nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. The only thing your going to need is a zip lock bag and a working freezer… Don’t throw that battery out just yet, this could work for you!
Freezing won’t help keep an already good battery charged. Keeping a battery in a cool environment, like a fridge will however slow down the natural deterioration of the cell that comes as it ages. The reason I freeze the batteries is to break down sulfation, which reduces a batteries capacity and ability to hold a charge. In the case of these batteries, sulfation comes in the form of tiny crystals, which can be broken down and turned back into electrolyte by freezing the battery.
When you fully discharge a battery you risk building up more sulphation inside the cell, which can damage the cell even more than it was starting out (sometimes it works, but it didn’t for me). I am more than fully aware of exactly what I am doing, I wouldn’t waste my or anybody else’s time making a video with false information. I have reconditioned over 50 batteries using my method. How many have you reconditioned ?
I tried it the recommended way (fully discharge the battery first) and those batteries didn’t last longer than 2 days without fully discharging. Even though my method goes against tradition, it has worked better for me (weeks without discharge). Keep in mind that different batteries will be affected differently and that there is an endless possibility of results because of that. I would suggest that you try the traditional way and see if they discharge correctly… If not, give my way a try.
Unfortunately sometimes nickel cad battery packs are hard to recondition, because they develop crystal dendrite growth within the cells themselves. There is no way to get rid of this by simply freezing the cells. The only way that I’ve seen that works is to zap the cells with a 12 volt dc power supply (such as a car battery with enough current) to dissolve the crystals. I haven’t yet tried this method on NIcad batts, but should soon (on a old 1ah dead nicad pack I have laying around).
